Position Overview The Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring products meet defined quality standards, regulatory requirements, and customer expectations throughout all stages of product development and manufacturing. This role requires independent judgment, technical expertise, and a proactive approach to quality improvement. With a high degree of creativity and latitude, the Quality Engineer defines, executes, and improves inspection, testing, and quality assurance processes while serving as a key partner to Manufacturing, Engineering, Customers, and Regulatory stakeholders. Key Responsibilities Quality Assurance & Product Compliance Monitor, test, and inspect products to ensure conformance to specifications, performance requirements, and design intent. Conduct laboratory and shop-floor testing that simulates real-world conditions using inspection and measurement tools such as micrometers, calipers, gauges, volt meters, ammeters, ohmmeters, and electronic inspection equipment. Define and execute both systematic and random testing methodologies to validate product performance. Make final accept/reject decisions regarding product quality and compliance. Inspection, Documentation & Process Control Develop, review, and maintain inspection forms, records, procedures, techniques, and quality plans; recommend and implement updates as needed. Review and approve First Article Inspection Reports (FAIR), final inspection reports, and drawing/specification change requests. Review and modify Manufacturing Work Instructions and Quality Inspection Plans to ensure accuracy and effectiveness. Read and interpret engineering drawings, including GD&T and multi-level Bills of Materials (BOMs). Continuous Improvement & Root Cause Analysis Lead and facilitate shop floor quality improvement initiatives, including floor audits and training operators and inspectors on effective inspection techniques. Participate in and lead Material Review Board (MRB) investigations and dispositions, including Root Cause and Corrective Action activities. Facilitate Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA/CPA) processes by tracking open actions, supporting owners toward timely closure, and escalating risks when necessary. Lead customer escape containment activities and root cause corrective actions using advanced problem-solving methodologies. Perform internal audits using inspection results and statistical techniques; analyze findings and determine appropriate corrective and preventive actions. Cross-Functional & Customer Collaboration Collaborate with Manufacturing and Design Engineering to develop Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) and Control Plans. Interface with Customer Quality, Engineering, and Government Representatives to support source surveillance and compliance activities. Review customer purchase orders and contracts for quality requirements and generate compliance matrices. Provide training to employees on quality-related topics and best practices. Reporting & Data Analysis Gather and analyze quality data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement. Prepare clear, accurate, and timely quality reports for internal and external stakeholders. Perform additional responsibilities as assigned. Required Skills & Competencies Strong knowledge of quality engineering principles, processes, and regulatory requirements. Demonstrated ability to apply a systematic, disciplined, and analytical approach to problem-solving. Strong customer-focused mindset with the ability to balance quality, cost, throughput, and productivity. Excellent analytical skills with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues. Ability to interpret complex technical information and communicate it clearly to diverse audiences. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with a collaborative, team-oriented approach. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook, and database management tools. Education: Bachelor?s Degree in Quality, Engineering, or a related discipline (Required) Master?s Degree preferred Experience: Minimum of 3?7 years of experience in a quality or manufacturing-related discipline Supervisory experience (5+ years) preferred Standards & Systems Experience (Preferred): AS9100 ISO 9001 NQA-1 | |
