The Automation Engineer is responsible for executing manufacturing automation development projects within the Advanced Manufacturing Engineering team.

This role will interact with other automation team members and operations stakeholders from project inception to production introduction. The engineer will be assigned to projects executed by the internal team as well as systems developed by external suppliers. This individual will work on multiple projects serving multiple locations.

Responsibilities include requirements definition, process development, concept development, mechanical design, system debug, qualification, schedule management, budgeting and communication.

This individual should be able to apply engineering principles to complete complex projects from concept to project closure. This role will work in a collaborative engineering environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Functions as project lead or project team member depending on workload assigned. In project lead role, responsible for schedule, budget and communication with suppliers and internal customers.

Reponsible for requirements definition, process development, mechanical design, controls development, assembly, debug and qualification activities associated with the development of automated manufacturing equipment.

In project lead role, manages activities of supporting project teams and internal development partners, ensures progress against established plan and makes determinations based on analysis of business information to alter or update schedule and resource allocation to meet project requirements and development schedule.
Communicates progress and issues to stakeholders, peers and leadership.

Collaborates with internal manufacturing and development partners to resolve project scope, product design and process issues to ensure project meets performance, schedule and budget objectives.

Drives innovation and integration of new technologies and quality initiatives into projects and activities in the manufacturing andengineering organization.
Provides guidance and mentoring to less experienced staff members.

Supports training of new employees in the use of equipment, system and equipment documentation, and department procedures.

Assist team members with complex and cross functional projects.

Uses creative approaches in solving complex problems.

Integrates subsystems and components in total systems design.
Work on special projects as assigned

Knowledge and Skills
Strong background in using project and program planning tools and software packages to create, manage, and track project results.
Highly skilled in mechanical design using 3D modeling software such as SolidWorks.
Background in statistical analysis, including gage capability, process capability and design of experiments.
Experience with controls systems development a plus.
Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
Demonstrated business acumen and successful experience managing projects, including communicating with stakeholders and leading matrixed teams and resources.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Minimum Qualifications, Education and Experience
Must be at least 18 years of age
Bachelor?s degree from an accredited college or university is required
4+ years of experience in related field

Work Environment
This is largely a sedentary role.
This job operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment with occasional work performed in a clean room environment
Must be able to occasionally move and lift objects of up to 25 pounds
Travel required 10 percent to 20 percent of the time depending on projects assigned.
