This position involves extensive travel across the United States, with some months requiring up to 90% travel. The role centers on troubleshooting optical fiber sites and requires OTDR (Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer) experience.

Desirable Skills:

Testing Expertise: Knowledge of least wave testing/BERT testing.
Quick Ramp-Up: Ability to hit the ground running or quickly ramp up.
Certifications: Relevant certifications are a plus but not required.
Software Proficiency: Experience working with desktop software programs, including MS Suite, Excel, Word, and Visio.
Additional Notes:

Travel Requirements: Extensive travel across the U.S., with the possibility of international travel to Canada and Mexico. Travel organized by region, typically one week at a time, with reimbursed expenses.
Remote Work: When not in the field, candidates can work remotely from home.
Interview Process: Two to three interviews, including sessions with the hiring manager and group interviews.
Contract to Hire: Position initially on a contract basis with the potential for permanent employment.
Fiber Splicing Experience: Candidates with experience in fiber splicing and fieldwork are preferred.
Travel Logistics: Travel booked through the client vendor; some out-of-pocket expenses reimbursed.
Local Travel: Driving within 60 miles considered local; personal vehicle needed.
Work Hours: Willingness to work weekends and longer days on occasion; overtime compensated.


Summary:
The main function of the Technical Support Engineer is to provide technical support to customer technicians, who are diagnosing, troubleshooting, repairing, debugging and maintaining products.
Job Responsibilities:
. Report design, reliability, and maintenance problems or bugs to design engineers/software engineering.
. Assist with customer installation and training.
. Provide support to customer/users where the product is highly technical or sophisticated in nature.
. Apply company policies and procedures to resolve routine issues.

Skills:
. Verbal and written communication skills, problem solving skills, customer service and interpersonal skills.
. Basic ability to work independently and manage one's time.
. Basic knowledge of circuit boards, processors, electronic equipment and computer hardware and software.
. Knowledge of computer software, such as configuration management software, desktop communications software, operating system software and internet directory services software.

Education/Experience:
. 5+ years experience required.
. Degree preferred but not required
