Overview:
The primary purpose of this position is to prepare parts, operate equipment and processes for the application of Thermal Spray on component parts. The process can be manual and include automation, combined with multiple varying parameters to produce specific thermal coating structures.

Operation and knowledge of the following is required
Preparation of component including masking, surface protection of surfaces from overspray, operation of Surface Preparation machines and post processing of residual overspray and surface finish.
Operation and control Robotics, including toolpath of robots and flow control of gas fuels. Adjustments to programs and gas flows to control desired Thermal Spray results.
2-4 years of CNC experience to operate robotics and auxiliary equipment.
Job Responsibilities: Work from Manufacturing information, drawings, written and/or verbal instructions:
Operate controls to initiate specific programs to activate a robot, apply associated gases and appropriate powders to produce a coating structure that meets Engineered Specifications.
Operate surface preparation equipment.
Perform necessary task to prepare and post process components that are to be Thermal Spray that may include manual masking, part conditioning, blending, etc.
Perform operations on equipment to maintain functionality such as adding media/powder, checking residual media/powder barrels, changing nozzles, hoses, checking fluids, alignment of equipment, checking filters, etc.
Interprets details drawings, sketches, blueprints, manufacturing specifications, shop routers, etc. and determines necessary tools to perform the required operations.
Using authorized material handling devices, loads/unloads parts from machines and/or assists crane operators
Load, unloads material from equipment and moves to next operation.
Work in accordance to Client values, standards, process and polices.
Adapts to various situations and adjusts to shifting priorities. Team player- provide assistance to co-workers, ie training, handing and/or measurements, etc.
Completes detailed records and other information, as required by systems (Operator Verification, product identification, etc.)
Maintain own work area- preventative maintenance, cleans and returns tooling, attachments, fixtures, tables, etc. to proper locations upon completion of operations.
Assist Quality organization with measuring, testing, charting of operational information and/or recording data
Follows Client established procedures to operate machinery/equipment Performs a variety of in-process and integrity checks (electronic or manual), as required, in order to maintain specific drawing tolerances.

Preparation & Training:
The demonstration of Trade Skill and practical assessment is a prerequisite to ensure capability to perform operation, trouble shooting and maintenance of complex equipment and systems. Experience or capability working with thermal spray systems, use of blueprints, metrology and visual inspections. Job duties require a basic knowledge of shop mathematics and operations, together with the use of complicated drawings, specification, charts, tables, various types of precision measuring instruments and /or the training generally applicable in this particular or specialized occupation. Must be able to use close tolerance measuring devices (caliper, gauges, micrometers, etc) and be able to perform measurement conversions, read, write understand, and follow verbal and/or written instructions, Must have the ability to complete forklift, crane operator certifications of Client. Computer knowledge required. U.S. Citizenship or Canada Citizenship required.
Experience:
This job requires machine operational experience, hand skills and analytical thinking. Detailed experience can be acquired on the job. With the above preparation and training, it would take approximately 2-4 years in order to become proficient with process and procedures of the set-ups, operations and various product tools and equipment used for part preparation, thermal spraying and post processing combustion components at Client.

Analytical Ability and Ingenuity:
Requires the use of significant judgment, initiative, and ingenuity in order to work independently toward meeting objectives for involved and complex jobs as well as have the ability to devise methods and procedures to meet unusual conditions and assist in solving complex problems on a multitude of processes.
Equipment or Process:
Set up equipment/parts to be machined and thermal sprayed, whereby incorrect set ups and adjustments for the process could result in damage to specific parts and /or damage to equipment. Equipment used: as stated above, blasting equipment, robotic and controls, powder feeders, electronic and other precision measuring instruments, various had tools, computers and various software including data collection systems.
Material or Product:
Due to the high cost of these manufactured products, errors in set-ups and operations could results in partial damage of products, which could result in lost time and customer goodwill. Errors, should they occur, would results in minor lost time and cost to the company.
Safety of Others:
Inattention, or careless operation of equipment or performance of duties could result in serious lost-time injury ot self or others. Abides by all company policies regarding safety/heath rules and regulations.
Work of Others:
This position is responsible for shift changeovers. It is also responsible to work with professional and support staff to develop processes, introduce improvements to tooling and processes, and to interface with customers. Will be involved in improvement initiatives.

Working Conditions:
Work is performed in a plant/production environment with noise, heat, dirt, oil and grease solvents are present but with none present to the extent of being disagreeable. Occasionally exposure to odors, fumes, lasers, welding, heat.
Mental Attention or Visual Demand:
General mental and visual attention is necessary when performing complete process operations in order to hold the close tolerances per drawing specifications. Must have normal or corrected vision, hearing and the ability to smell in order to be aware of proper operation of equipment and to detect any potential safety hazards.
Physical Demand:
When performing the duties of this position, employee must be able to bend and stoop at the waist, crouch, stretch and reach, stand, walk and rotate body. Job duties also require being able to occasionally lift/carry/push/pull tooling, parts, items weighing approximately 5-25 pounds over 70% of the time. Lifting of items up to 50 pounds weights can be expected of the operator. Awkward position are sometimes required when changing machine attachments, loading powder or blast media. Must have good manual dexterity for assemble and rebuilding of equipment, masking and handling tools, etc.
Hazards:
Care should be taken when lifting, pushing and pulling in awkward position in order to avoid strains. Extra caution should be observed when handling thermal spray materials (including powders) and when entering the work environment. Powders for thermal spray may contain metals and/or ceramics.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) of various types are quired per the Job Safety Analysis (JSA) throughout the work area. Safety shoes and safety glasses are required in all production areas.
