Description

The Packaging Technician will lead and assist in various duties related to keeping the production line running smoothly, with a focus on equipment and process management. The role demands a keen attention to detail, a strong mechanical ability, and solid computer skills, ensuring that the production goals are communicated and met efficiently across shifts. The individual may also serve in a lead role to other employees and must have the capability to assist in leading teams, manage raw material inventory, and maintain stringent quality standards.

Essential Job Duties:

- Lead team in line setup and product changeover, identifying critical controls and issues.
- Provide production run sheets to packaging machine operators and complete daily production runs.
- Update production system and case total board with completed case counts to communicate production goals to the next shift.
- Maintain raw material inventory, communicating discrepancies as needed.
- Operate multiple machines in the packaging area and assist with keeping the production line consistently operating and clear of jams.
- Perform basic troubleshooting, make minor adjustments as needed, and aid the operation of packaging machinery by troubleshooting issues with codes, dates, and prices.
- Submit maintenance work orders and assist/perform Preventative Maintenance as needed.
- Monitor and check weights and product appearance as required.
- Uphold and lead GMP, PPE, safety, and quality policy compliance by setting an example and validating employee compliance.
- Assist with communications to Quality Assurance on holds, changeovers, etc.
- Assist supervisor in completing daily line paperwork on KPIs and may assist with training new employees and operators on the line.
- Keep work area aisles/exits clear, removing trash from the work area floor.
- Support and participate in Continuous Improvement initiatives, including 5S.
- Follow instructions for safe lifting/carrying of various sizes, shapes, and weights; identify/report issues with equipment; report all job-related injuries to supervision.
- May perform sanitation tasks and other duties as required.
- Mandatory overtime may be required.

Scope of Responsibility:

May serve in a lead role to other employees.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

- Attention to detail and mechanical ability.
- Solid Computer skills and average mathematical skills (Addition, subtraction, division, percentages, and fractions).
- Ability to assist supervisor or packaging coordinator in leading a team.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrates ownership and accountability.
- Leadership skills and mechanical aptitudes preferred, with maintenance/production machine experience/knowledge.

Education and Experience:

- High School Diploma or GED and/or
- 1-year production experience in a manufacturing environment required.

Physical Demands:

The role requires continuous standing, using hands, and bending, as well as frequent walking, stooping, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and overhead work standing. There is a need to occasionally climb and carry up to 25 pounds, with frequent lifting/carrying up to 60 pounds.##
