Weekly Pay! $55.17/Hour SHIFT INFO Shift day Shifts per week 4 Hours per shift 10 EXPERIENCE Years of Experience Three Years Plus Specialties CVOR - required MUST BE FULLY COVID AND FLU VACCINATED NO EXCEPTIONS DESCRIPTION Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates nursing care in accordance with hospital policy/procedure, all nursing division standards of practice, hospital, community, national standards and regulatory agency requirements. Completes patient assessment and develops plan of care in collaboration with surgical team, standards of care and departmental policies. Assesses and documents patient's physical, mental and emotional needs. Recognizes potential problems and abnormal findings and communicates to appropriate surgical team member. Documents nursing interventions and treatments along with patient response. Documents perioperative data accurately and appropriately. Anticipates needs of surgical team by correctly assembling needed supplies for each procedure according to surgeon preference card. Anticipates patient needs of surgical team including anesthesia personnel, scrub nurse and surgeon to facilitate progression of the case. Verifies that all equipment is functioning at the beginning of and during the case; recognizes own problem-solving limitations and seeks assistance as needed. Maintains a sterile field throughout the case by practicing aseptic techniques according to standards of care and infection control guidelines. Initiates corrective action when breaks in technique occur. Positions patient to protect skin, maintain proper body alignment, and protect pressure points. Provides added precautions for patients with impairments, injuries, etc. Follows standards of care and departmental policies related to instrument/sponge/sharp counts. Provides pre-operative teaching and emotional support as need is identified. Anticipates patient needs of surgical team including anesthesia personnel, scrub nurse and surgeon to facilitate progression of the case. Maintains communication with control desk coordinator or evening shift coordinator anticipating delays or completion of the case. Administers and documents medications according to medication policies and procedures. Knowledgeable of effect and side-effect of medications given. Documents patient response to medications administered. Demonstrates knowledge of anesthetic agents and their usage and effect on surgical patients. Adheres to surgical schedule and case turn-over consistent with established standards and scheduling policies. Demonstrates skill/knowledge in accordance with patient?s age and developmental status when providing care. Ensures a safe, supportive environment for staff, medical staff, patients, and students. Monitors LPN and non-licensed staff performance and practice and initiates action to correct deficiencies. Identifies and removes faulty equipment from service and takes to materials coordinator for repair/replacement, assuring all procedures for decontamination and proper chain of communication are followed. Follows standards of care and departmental policies related to electrical safety, laser safety and patient safety. Disposes of contaminated materials in accordance with infection control policy and MSDS procedures. Handles specimens according to policies and plan of care. Provides appropriate perioperative patient status report to family/friends. Recognizes life-threatening situations and initiates appropriate emergency intervention according to established policies and procedures. Demonstrates knowledge and proper use of good body mechanics. Participates in thorough orientation of employees, in-service education and staff development to maximize productivity and minimize case turnover. Demonstrates encouragement and support to orientee. Precepts new orientee as assigned and uses skill checklist to review skills with orientee. Identifies learning difficulties of orientee, shares with orientee, coordinator, and educator/QI coordinator when appropriate. Collects, compiles, and documents unit based patient care QI monitoring information according to established standards. (occurrence screens) Demonstrates open communication skills to establish and maintain a climate of openness, professionalism and mutual respect. Demonstrates the skills necessary to work collaboratively. Demonstrates effective interpersonal communication skills with all staff about departmental operations, practices, medical-legal and patient care issues. Communicates changes in nursing practice concepts, methods and techniques to leadership staff. Follows line of communication to resolve issues and resolves problems at lowest level. Documents and reports observed unsafe clinical practices. Handles all patient information in strict compliance with departmental and hospital policies. Maintains confidentiality of employee, department, and hospital information within the scope of their position and their ?need to know?. Functions as a team member by approaching relationships in a manner that avoids and reduces negative conflict. Provides for patient's privacy, comfort and safety during perioperative period. Responsible for attendance and punctuality to ensure efficient and cost effective operations of the department. Uses budgeted supplies and equipment judiciously. Reports and is prepared to begin work on the scheduled time. Requests days off in advance and provides appropriate notice to the supervisor per departmental guidelines and policies. Reports to Control Desk Coordinator/designee when leaving or returning to unit, including break and lunch times. Notifies Control Desk Coordinator, Evening Shift Coordinator, Charge Nurse, or designee prior to scheduled work time of any unscheduled or unanticipated absences per departmental guidelines and policies. Chooses necessary supplies to meet patient needs and physician preferences. Documents supplies, equipment, implant, etc. usage accurately and timely according to policy and procedure. Demonstrates economical and effective use of supplies and equipment as demonstrated by minimal waste on each case. Returns unused supplies to appropriate storage place. Notifies Specialty Coordinator and/or Materials Coordinator of low inventory. Properly handles and maintains equipment/instruments to assure longevity and proper working order for each surgical case. Provides effective, efficient services to clients - patients and physicians (surgeons and anesthesiologists). Maintains accurate physician-procedure preference cards. Plans care and organizes supplies and equipment in collaboration with team members to ensure expedient case turnover. Builds and maintains team performance through developing positive working relationships with physicians, departmental, and hospital staff. Listens effectively to others, and works cooperatively with others as a part of the team. Addresses problems reported by physicians, resolving where possible and communicating problems and solutions to Specialty Coordinator or Clinical Manager. Promotes positive public relations through attentiveness to individual patient needs. Assumes responsibility for keeping current with departmental organizational trends and customer needs through active participation in activities designed to enhance skills, professional, and personal growth. Demonstrates commitment to professional growth. Keeps current on variations and changes in hospital and departmental policies and procedures by reviewing communications within one week of issue. Communicates inservice needs to Specialty Coordinator and/or Education/QI Coordinator. Supports the perioperative preceptorship program for clinical and non-clinical staff. Develops yearly professional growth objectives that may include critical thinking, technical, interpersonal skills, and action plan for achievement. Participates on departmental and hospital committees as assigned. Maintains professional growth by participating in outside educational seminars or reviewing current medical/nursing literature and sharing relevant information with peers by presenting one inservice annually. Adapts to and works effectively with a variety of situations, individuals and other team members. Recognizes the positive dimensions of change and copes effectively with its threatening aspects. Initiates useful change within own sphere of influence. Defines areas of needed improvement with input from Specialty Coordinator. Sets challenging objectives and works against self defined standard of excellence to continually improve personal performance. | |
