Job Summary We are seeking an experienced CNC Machinist / Precision Machinist to operate and set up conventional and computer numerical control (CNC) machining equipment to produce precision components according to engineering specifications and tight tolerances. The ideal candidate will have experience working with multiple types of machining equipment, interpreting blueprints, performing machine setups, and inspecting finished parts to ensure quality and accuracy. This position requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently with limited supervision while contributing to team objectives, continuous improvement, and lean manufacturing initiatives. Key Responsibilities Set up and operate multiple production machines, including CNC lathes, internal and external grinders, surface and profile grinders, wire EDMs, broaches, and conventional machining equipment. Perform machining operations such as cutting, shaping, drilling, grinding, forming, deburring, and reworking precision components. Read and interpret engineering blueprints, sketches, route sheets, planning documents, and verbal instructions. Determine and adjust feed rates, spindle speeds, and depth of cut according to material specifications and manufacturing requirements. Install and adjust cutting tools and secure workpieces using fixtures, arbors, vises, chucks, carriers, collets, and other work-holding devices. Make necessary machine adjustments and report equipment malfunctions or improper cutting performance. Inspect machined components using precision measuring instruments to verify conformance to specifications and tolerances of less than 0.0005 inches. Use micrometers, calipers, height gauges, indicators, bore gauges, surface finish comparators, and magnification equipment, including microscopes, to evaluate part quality. Identify burrs, surface defects, and potential damage to critical component features; perform deburring and finishing as required. Perform routine equipment maintenance to maintain cleanliness, accuracy, and operational reliability. Complete statistical process control (SPC) activities and maintain accurate production, inspection, job traveler, and timekeeping records. Handle raw materials, semi-finished components, and finished products using appropriate material-handling equipment, including hoists, carts, and lifts. Support lean manufacturing initiatives by identifying opportunities to improve productivity, reduce costs, and minimize waste. Follow all company policies, safety procedures, and housekeeping requirements. Perform other related duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Minimum of three years of related machining experience. Demonstrated ability to set up and operate production machining equipment. Experience with CNC and/or conventional machining equipment. Ability to read and interpret engineering blueprints, specifications, and manufacturing instructions. Working knowledge of machine shop mathematics, including trigonometry when applicable. Experience using precision measuring instruments to inspect components and verify tight tolerances. Knowledge of cutting tools, work-holding devices, machining feeds, speeds, and depth-of-cut adjustments. Familiarity with statistical process control (SPC), production documentation, and quality requirements. Ability to work independently with limited guidance and collaborate effectively within a team. Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills. Basic computer proficiency and the ability to use electronic production records, job-specific software, and employee self-service systems. Commitment to workplace safety, quality standards, and continuous improvement. Work Environment and Technical Requirements Candidates must be comfortable working in a precision machining or manufacturing environment that requires operating multiple machines, handling materials, performing detailed inspections, and maintaining close dimensional tolerances. Important Eligibility Requirement: This position is subject to applicable U.S. export compliance and/or U.S. Government contracting citizenship eligibility requirements. Candidates must meet the eligibility requirements applicable to the assignment. | |
