Position Summary The Litigation Claims Specialist will independently manage a portfolio of 100+ litigated matters handled by outside counsel on behalf of the Company, with a primary focus on New York claims and complex liability matters. This role is responsible for monitoring case activity, evaluating litigation exposure, partnering with outside counsel and internal investigators, and providing recommendations regarding case strategy, reserves, settlements, and overall claim resolution. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong litigation and claims judgment, the ability to manage a high-volume caseload with minimal supervision, and the ability to effectively collaborate with attorneys, investigators, adjusters, and internal business stakeholders. Key Responsibilities Independently manage and monitor a portfolio of 100+ litigated claims handled by outside counsel. Review case files, pleadings, motions, mediation statements, reports, and other litigation materials to assess case status, exposure, and strategy. Maintain accurate and timely case information, diary updates, notes, and documentation within the Company's case management system. Communicate regularly with outside counsel and internal investigators regarding case developments, litigation strategy, investigations, and recommended next steps. Review outside counsel's handling of assigned matters and provide thoughtful, actionable feedback regarding case strategy and litigation activity. Evaluate liability, damages, litigation exposure, and potential outcomes to support reserve recommendations and settlement authority requests. Prepare and present settlement requests and make recommendations regarding claim disposition and resolution. Review and evaluate motions, mediation statements, and other legal submissions prepared by outside counsel. Review legal invoices and submitted bills for accuracy, reasonableness, and compliance with applicable requirements. Support mediation and alternative dispute resolution activities, including reviewing mediation materials and assessing settlement opportunities. Identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improved claims handling and litigation management. Collaborate with the broader outside counsel management team to promote consistency, efficiency, and effective resolution of litigated matters. Required Skills & Experience Demonstrated experience managing a high-volume portfolio of litigated claims or legal matters. Strong experience with outside counsel management and the ability to independently monitor and evaluate counsel performance. Knowledge of New York claims evaluation and case valuation, including exposure analysis, reserve setting, and settlement recommendations. Strong understanding of litigation strategy and the ability to review pleadings, motions, and legal submissions. Experience evaluating settlement opportunities and developing settlement recommendations. Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively with attorneys, investigators, adjusters, and business stakeholders. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to independently prioritize and manage a large caseload. Required Technology Skills Case Management Systems: Guidewire, Litify, Legal Files, ClaimCenter, or similar litigation/claims management platforms. Microsoft Outlook: Communication and coordination with outside counsel and internal stakeholders. Microsoft Excel: Case tracking, reserve analysis, reporting, and settlement evaluations. Document Review & E-Billing Platforms: Legal invoice review and analysis of pleadings, motions, mediation statements, and case documentation. Legal Research & Document Management Tools: Review and management of litigation materials and case strategy. Preferred Qualifications Experience handling New York premises liability and motor vehicle accident claims. Insurance defense or claims adjusting background involving complex liability matters. Experience with mediation and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR). Experience with reserve management and financial exposure analysis across a large claim portfolio. Experience identifying trends, developing reports, and implementing process improvements within claims or litigation operations. | |
