Steel Slitting for a direct-hire opportunity in Carol Stream, IL. The Quality Inspector will be responsible for inspecting steel coils throughout the steel slitting process, verifying dimensions and product quality, identifying defects, and ensuring finished slit steel products meet customer specifications and quality standards while maintaining the highest standards of safety and accuracy. Pay Range Entry-Level / 1?2 Years: $19.00 ? $21.50 per hour Mid-Level II: $21.50 ? $24.00 per hour Senior / Highly Skilled: $24.00 ? $28.00+ per hour Pay will be based on experience, technical skills, steel industry experience, and overall qualifications. Shift Schedule 1st Shift: 5:00 AM ? 3:30 PM Possible overtime on Saturdays 2nd Shift: 5:00 PM ? 3:30 AM Possible Saturday overtime: 3:00 PM ? 11:00 PM Responsibilities Inspect incoming master steel coils for grade, thickness, width, and surface defects. Verify incoming materials against Mill Test Reports (MTRs), purchase orders, and customer specifications. Inspect steel slitter setup, including knife clearances, spacer sizes, and tooling configurations. Perform first-piece inspections and approve setups before full production. Conduct periodic inspections during the steel slitting process. Measure slit width, burr height, camber, tension, and winding quality. Inspect finished slit steel coils for dimensional and visual conformity. Measure outside diameter (OD), inside diameter (ID), coil weight, and slit multi-widths. Use precision measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, and scales. Identify, tag, and segregate non-conforming materials. Complete Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) when required. Participate in root-cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA). Maintain accurate and traceable inspection records. Follow ISO 9001:2015 requirements, company procedures, and SOPs. Verify calibration status of inspection and measuring equipment. Communicate quality issues promptly to Production, Steel Slitting Operators, Quality Assurance, and management. Follow all safety procedures and required PPE requirements. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area. Qualifications Previous experience as a Quality Inspector in steel manufacturing, steel processing, or steel slitting . 1?2 years of relevant experience preferred for entry-level positions. Experience inspecting slit steel coils, steel sheets, or other metal products preferred. Knowledge of steel slitting processes preferred. Ability to read and interpret customer specifications, purchase orders, drawings, MTRs, and quality documentation. Experience using micrometers, calipers, gauges, scales, and other precision measuring equipment. Knowledge of dimensional tolerances, surface defects, burr height, camber, coil dimensions, and winding quality. Familiarity with ISO 9001:2015, NCRs, and CAPA preferred. Strong attention to detail and ability to identify quality issues accurately. Ability to maintain accurate inspection and quality records. Good communication and teamwork skills. Ability to work independently in a fast-paced steel manufacturing environment. Ability to work scheduled overtime, including Saturdays, as required. Ability to follow safety procedures and wear required PPE. Previous manufacturing or metal-processing experience preferred.
