Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Litigation Attorney to provide legal support to the Legal Services team through a dedicated attorney pool focused primarily on general litigation, with additional support for commercial litigation and mass tort matters. This position will focus on pre-trial litigation activities and legal case support. The attorney will work closely with counsel to assist with case preparation, legal research, motion practice, case evaluation, and litigation strategy. Court appearances and deposition coverage are not expected as part of this role. Key Responsibilities Draft pleadings, answers, dispositive motions, and other litigation-related documents, including motions for summary judgment. Review case files following the Note of Issue to ensure completeness and identify outstanding matters or potential risks. Review, analyze, and summarize medical records, deposition transcripts, and other case materials. Assist attorneys with case evaluations, liability assessments, and requests for settlement authority. Conduct legal research related to verdicts, legal issues, case strategy, and applicable law. Prepare clear and concise legal memoranda, case summaries, and written analyses. Identify potential litigation risks, legal issues, and case weaknesses at an early stage. Assist attorneys in developing and evaluating litigation and trial strategy. Support matters involving tort, liability, and general litigation claims. Maintain an understanding of and compliance with insurance carrier reporting requirements. Collaborate effectively with attorneys and other members of the Legal Services team to support active litigation matters. Required Qualifications 5?8 years of relevant litigation experience. Substantial defense-side litigation experience. Experience with an insurance defense law firm and/or an insurance carrier's legal department, such as an AIG Staff Counsel-type environment. Demonstrated experience drafting dispositive motions, including motions for summary judgment. Experience reviewing and analyzing medical records and litigation-related documentation. Experience handling or supporting tort and liability matters. Strong understanding of case evaluation and litigation risk assessment. Familiarity with insurance carrier reporting requirements. Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and organizational skills. Ability to identify legal issues and potential case risks early and communicate findings effectively. Preferred Qualifications Extensive defense-side litigation experience. Experience handling general liability, tort, or other insurance-related litigation. Experience working directly with or supporting insurance carriers and their legal departments. Strong background in motion practice and pre-trial case preparation. | |
