We are seeking an experienced **Property & Gross Receipts Tax Accountant** to support tax compliance, accounting, reporting, and regulatory requirements across New York State and various local municipalities. This is a hands-on, analytical role requiring the ability to interpret accounting and system data, investigate variances, prepare tax filings and accruals, and support property tax matters. The ideal candidate will have **5?8 years of accounting and/or tax compliance experience**, with strong knowledge of property and/or gross receipts taxes preferred. This individual must be highly analytical, detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable managing multiple deadlines across various tax jurisdictions. Key Responsibilities- * Prepare property tax and gross receipts tax payments for New York State and applicable local municipalities. * Prepare property tax and gross receipts tax accruals, journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting workpapers. * Prepare tax returns, schedules, and supporting documentation. * Analyze accounting and system data to identify variances, discrepancies, and potential tax issues. * Initiate property tax grievances and support the Company's efforts to resolve, settle, or litigate property tax matters. * Support the preparation of tax schedules and documentation for **SEC, FERC, PSC**, and other regulatory filings. * Support Company legislation, regulatory, and litigation matters related to taxation. * Maintain accurate and organized tax records, workpapers, and supporting documentation. * Respond professionally and timely to tax-related inquiries from internal and external stakeholders. * Maintain strong corporate relationships while handling sensitive and confidential financial and tax information. * Perform other related duties and assignments as required. ## Required Qualifications & Skills * Bachelor's degree in **Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field**. * 5?8 years of accounting and/or general tax compliance experience. * Property tax and/or gross receipts tax experience strongly preferred. * Strong understanding of **GAAP accounting principles** related to property and gross receipts taxes. * Experience preparing corporate and/or gross receipts tax returns preferred. * Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly **Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint**. * Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret accounting system data using Excel for tax and financial reporting. * Advanced Excel skills, including the ability to efficiently **cleanse, join, parse, reconcile, and analyze large data sets**. * Familiarity with ERP systems; experience with **Oracle BI and Oracle EBS Finance/Supply Chain** is preferred. * Experience with property tax accounting software, particularly **PowerPlan-Property Tax**, is preferred. * Familiarity with the **NYC Department of Finance Property Tax Public Access Web Portal** is preferred. * Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tax jurisdictions, priorities, and deadlines. * Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and make informed decisions. * Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and facilitation skills. * Professional demeanor with the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management and company personnel. * Demonstrated ability to handle confidential financial and tax information with discretion. Physical Requirements- * Ability to push, pull, and lift up to 25 pounds. * Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while performing job duties. * Ability to sit or stand while using a keyboard, mouse, and computer throughout the workday. * Ability to answer and communicate via telephone for extended periods. Preferred Experience Candidates with experience in the following areas are highly preferred: * New York State and local property taxation * Gross receipts tax compliance * Property tax accounting and accruals * Tax return preparation * Property tax grievances * Utility or regulated-industry tax reporting * SEC, FERC, or PSC regulatory reporting * Oracle BI / Oracle EBS * PowerPlan-Property Tax * NYC Department of Finance property tax systems * Advanced Excel data analysis and reconciliation What We're Looking For- The successful candidate will be more than a general accountant or tax preparer. We are seeking a **hands-on tax and accounting professional who can analyze financial and system data, identify issues and variances, and translate that information into accurate tax reporting, accruals, regulatory schedules, and compliance deliverables.** Strong property tax and/or gross receipts tax experience is highly valued. | |
