Description

The Production Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently handling raw materials, operating production and mixing equipment, monitoring manufacturing processes, performing quality checks, and completing packaging and material-handling activities. This role works independently in pre-weigh, batch build, and COP areas while maintaining compliance with cGMP, 5S, allergen control, food/feed safety, SHE, and company quality standards.

Key Responsibilities
Production & Material Handling
Transport raw materials from storage to the dispenser room and accurately weigh materials according to batch formulas.
Add raw materials to the appropriate mixer and ensure proper batch preparation.
Operate within pre-weigh, batch build, and COP areas with minimal supervision.
Print labels, fill silos, complete final product packaging, and safely palletize and store raw materials and finished goods.
Inspect incoming raw materials and finished products for quality and conformance.
Collect and analyze raw material and finished product samples according to established requirements.
Process Monitoring & Equipment Operation
Monitor production equipment and process parameters to ensure operations remain within established specifications.
Record process conditions, production information, and corrective actions accurately.
Identify and report process disturbances, equipment concerns, and production issues to the Team Lead.
Communicate recommended process adjustments and concerns promptly.
Perform minor equipment maintenance and troubleshooting when necessary to support continuous and efficient production.
Assist with investigations related to asset utilization and equipment effectiveness.
Documentation & Quality
Maintain accurate process and equipment documentation to support overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
Review and approve batch sheets for accuracy and completeness.
Prepare final product labels and maintain proper label control.
Assist with the development and maintenance of SOPs as requested.
Follow established change control and validation procedures.
Ensure all production activities comply with applicable quality, cGMP, food/feed safety, and operational requirements.
Housekeeping & Compliance
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with company housekeeping standards.
Follow all allergen storage requirements, cGMPs, 5S practices, and other applicable programs and procedures.
Address non-compliance when observed and notify the appropriate supervisor when requirements are not followed.
Ensure all individuals working in the area?including Maintenance, Quality, contractors, and visitors?follow applicable safety requirements.
Communication & Teamwork
Communicate relevant production, equipment, quality, and safety information with all team members.
Provide thorough shift-to-shift communication to ensure continuity of operations.
Work collaboratively with Production, Quality, Maintenance, and Department Management teams.
Demonstrate leadership by modeling safe, compliant, and professional work practices.
Training & Continuous Improvement
Attend required formal training, including safety, quality improvement, problem-solving, MSDS/SDS, and other company training programs.
Complete all required computer-based training modules.
Assist Department Management in identifying employee training needs.
Participate in initiatives related to process improvement, asset utilization, safety, quality, and operational efficiency.
Participate in establishing, reviewing, and maintaining site SHE requirements, procedures, and instructions.
Safety, Health & Environmental (SHE) Responsibilities
Promote positive safety behaviors and maintain a strong safety culture at all times.
Follow all applicable SHE policies, procedures, and DSM Life Saving Rules.
Properly use required PPE, safety tools, equipment, and procedures.
Maintain awareness of accident prevention, workplace hazards, and food/feed safety while performing all job duties.
Take appropriate action to protect the safety of yourself and others.
Maintain work areas and equipment to the highest applicable safety standards.
Encourage coworkers and other personnel to follow established SHE requirements.
Qualifications & Skills
Previous manufacturing, production, batch processing, material handling, or related experience preferred.
Ability to accurately measure, weigh, and handle raw materials according to established formulas and procedures.
Ability to operate production equipment and monitor process conditions.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
Ability to read, understand, and accurately complete production documentation.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Ability to identify process deviations, quality concerns, and equipment issues and escalate them appropriately.
Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to perform minor equipment maintenance.
Ability to work safely in a manufacturing environment and consistently follow PPE and safety requirements.
Ability to follow cGMP, 5S, allergen control, SHE, and food/feed safety requirements.
Willingness and ability to complete required training and computer-based learning modules.
