Business Group/Unit: HNC Service Group/Unit: Winchester Pilot Plant (33365219) Reports to: Pilot Plant Supervisor Knowledge and educational level: The level of education generally necessary to effectively handle the job?s essential functions is a High School Diploma with 3 years relevant experience or the equivalent degree in an engineering or science related field. Requires a basic level of computer literacy and data entry skills in MS Office programs. Required level of experiences The level of experience generally necessary to effectively perform the job?s responsibilities is 3 years of relevant experience with no advanced degree. Must be able to work 12-hour shifts (days and/or nights or swing) with weekends and overtime as needed. Previous experience in cGMP biotech/pharmaceutical/food environment, chemical or fermentation field preferred. Purpose of the position: Responsible for operating and assisting in the operation, monitoring, cleaning, and general maintenance of the Fermentation Pilot Plant processes and equipment. Position context: This position provides the hands-on daily operation and monitoring capabilities for the Fermentation Pilot Plant (FPP). The FPP conducts research and experimentation for two major functions ? Manufacturing Support and Process Development geared towards three goals: Cost reduction Continuous improvement Troubleshooting Process and Product Development, including, but not limited to: Scale-up of new processes Testing new equipment Qualifying raw materials suppliers Technology transfer to Manufacturing Preparation of material for DSP development and quality testing Position content: Key areas of accountability/responsibility: Ensures personal compliance with Client?s SHE guidelines and standards. Ensures personal compliance with Client?s Quality System and all applicable federal requirements, such as Good Manufacturing Practices. Develops skills by advancing through the Operational Competency based training program. Assist with implementation of fermentation experiments that are moderately difficult, requiring judgement in resolving issues. Operates the FPP fermenters and related equipment in a safe manner to ensure that process control conditions are maintained as specified. Communicates operational situations to all affected personnel to ensure safe and effective FPP operations across shift changes. Monitors the FPP experiments to record all important experiment observations and data. Performs sterile operations, including culture transfer at all stages and proper sterilization techniques to ensure aseptic operations in the FPP. Assists in the performance of general cleaning (including clean-in-place procedures) and maintenance (including regular recommended preventive maintenance) of FPP equipment to help ensure operational efficiency and to extend the life of the equipment. Helps to ensure FPP is in compliance with site 5s directives. Organizes tasks to be able to complete all necessary operations scheduled for each shift and alerts supervisor if unable to complete all operations on the daily work list. Works to SHE standards and encourages fellow colleagues to work to the same standards. Displays and promotes positive safety behaviors at all times; uses proper personal protective equipment, appropriate safety tools, equipment and procedures to ensure that self and others go home safe each day; that area and equipment operate at the highest safety levels; that all people in the area comply with the safety directives and keep the area neat and clean. Follows all SHE instructions and procedures to include awareness of and following all Client Life Saving Rules. Acts in such a way that safety awareness and accident prevention are considered in performing all tasks. Ensures that all personal safety, quality and assigned training is up to date and in compliance. Supports and follows the policy of reporting incidents, near misses and improvement possibilities. Encourages co-workers and management to improve SHE results and incidents. Ensures Quality procedures, Management Directives and Quality improvement projects are supported and followed. Reports any quality deviations or non-conformances observed. Authorities Has the authority to intervene in the event of a quality or safety protocol concern. Complexity of the position: Requires basic understanding of Fermentation, sterile techniques and chemical handling. Requires basic understanding of utility and support systems including steam, chilled water, HVAC, air compressors, waste treatment, electrical, process water, etc. Requires ability to run, maneuver, navigate, or drive mechanized equipment, such as lift trucks, hand trucks, and pallet jacks. Requires a high degree of manual dexterity with good mechanical and technical aptitude. Requires accuracy, excellent detail orientation, initiative to work at a steady pace with deadlines and a flexible can-do attitude. Requires basic oral and written skills. Requires a basic level of computer literacy with experience in Microsoft Office. Requires openness to change to support plant Lean initiatives. |
